Yeah it just looks like they're having trouble maintaining ball control right now. I'm sure that will change pretty soon though.

I'm gettin real tired of all the "experts" on ESPN saying the US has no chance. Not only do we have a chance we are GOING TO WIN! 2-0, 2-1 however it goes down I don't care but the US leaves Azteca this afternoon with 3 MORE POINTS!
Earlier Mike Wilbon compared the game to Federer playing Roddick while A-Rod had 2 casts on! Kornheiser gives us no respect either. Even Alexi Lalas who usually tells it like it is is trippin! Lalas predicts a 1-1 draw which wouldn't be terrible but we want those Tres Puntos!
|
That's not disrespecting the US as much as it's overrespecting the Mexican fortress of Azteca. The US isn't exactly the only team to struggle in Smogland. I can't find El Tri's all-time record at Azteca, but it probably has very few losses.

No cause for alarm yet. Davies put a nice one in early but Mexico able to equalize with a beautiful shot off the crossbar and in.
1-1 at Half time to analyze a little bit
USA moving the ball well up the pitch even if we haven't had as many chances as we'd like. The area we need to improve on in the 2nd half though is the midfield. Attackers and back line are solid but midfield play as usual a bit sketchy...
Ricardo Clark needs to provide the spark with his speed like I know he can, also Michael Bradley would like to see him take a long rip or 2 with his cannon of a leg. Something tells me we're gonna see Jose Torres in for Clark before I'd say the 65th.
Another sub I'd like to see early, either to start the half or before the 60th is Jozy Altidore in for Bryan Ching. Ching has been struggling lately and nothing seems to have changed. Bradley gave him 45 minutes and he's shown no real spark.
As far as what Taylor said I agree that this is not a "major" match for us just because we already have 10 pts. Any points are good but I still want the 3, and I think the team does too. Yes we will qualify either way but I really do think we're still angry/upset about the Gold Cup final. Mexico is our rivals for a reason and nothing would make us happier than to take 3 out of Azteca. If Mexico does lose this match their road to 2010 gets A LOT harder with only 6 pts.
2nd half about to start let's get another in the back of the net!
Oh and an errant red or more BS officiating would be no surprise here. They LOVE giving USA the red card. LOVE it

USA better find a way to get possession and keep it for more than a few seconds. Can't win if you never have the ball.

The only logical explanation I can think of Ching over Altidore is that we would rather have Jozy off the bench than Brian Ching. Ching hasn't given us much. Hopefully, the Altidore-Ching sub comes soon...

Yeah I agree, Jozy IMO is still not ready to go the full 90. That's the one thing he lacks is stamina, but he makes up for it with his play.
Whenever Altidore does come off the bench he'll have 100% fresh legs. Maybe it's gonna be a late late 75th minute sub and see what he can do fresh into the game with 15 minutes?
Who was the sub that just came in and for who? I was on the air and missed it

For Mexico, Vela came in for Blanco. Not sure about any US sub though. Watching this thing in Spanish is pretty difficult to keep up with.

Holden for Ricardo Clark. Someone's going in for Mexico soon. We need to improve on our possession. It's either clearing or going for the home run. Sometimes you need to just win the possession battle like in the NFL.
