Terrell Owens Without a Team
As taken from my blog:
As if it wasn't official enough, the Buffalo Bills' refusal to offer wide receiver Terrell Owens a new contract ends his one year tenure with the franchise. The question looming on many minds is this: Where, if anywhere, will Owens land in 2010? At first glance, it wouldn't appear the interest in the receiver would be any higher than last season when the only reported offer came from the Bills. After a second look and considering that Owens will surely not be looking for a large contract, a few teams pop out in my mind.First, the Chicago Bears could use some help at receiver. Devin Hester is flashy and Johnny Knox impressed in his rookie campaign, but neither will leave playoff-caliber opponents shaking in their boots. If the Bears are to salvage the trade for Jay Cutler, they need to get a veteran receiver, take one in the draft, and let the veteran work while the youngster prepares to take the spotlight.
It wouldn't surprise me to see the Raiders take a chance on Owens. Al Davis has been known to sign players in their twilight in the past, and I don't see why this time should be any different. Davis loves the big names, and the fact is, even at 37 years old, Owens can still outplay many receivers in the league.
Despite reports saying the Bengals have already said no, I think Cincinnati would be a possibility. Owens and Chad Ochocinco could make life easier on Carson Palmer (at least on the field), and the two are already good friends, so it would seem any potential animosity would be non-existent with these two.
The Ravens have reportedly shown interest in Owens. The only issue I see here would be from guys that were on the team when Owens vetoed a chance to go to the Ravens, forcing his way to Philadelphia instead. Guys like Ray Lewis may still have hard feelings about what they felt was a major sign of disrespect.
I still think Chicago would be the best destination as far as QB-WR pairings go, as Cutler needs an established receiver to throw to, not just a punt returner turned receiver like Hester.
