Shaq will miss two months after having surgery on his sprained thumb. One obvious question is how badly the Cavs will miss him. The less obvious, and in my mind, more important question is this: Will he be of any use by the time he returns?
At his size, age, and already questionable physical condition, Shaq may not be able to contribute anything of real value by the time he returns from this injury. It took him a good month to get rolling at the start of the regular season, and was considered fully healthy at the time. If he takes a month to get a rhythm this time around, the Cavs could already be eliminated from postseason play by the likes of the Orlando Magic again. Don't look now, but I think the Cavs are sorely counting down the days until Ilgauskus can re-sign with the team.
