Texas Rangers CJ vs. Frank Fracisco

Richard Durrett of the Dallas Morning News wonders if C.J. Wilson should remain the Rangers' closer upon Frank Francisco's return from the disabled list. Francisco is on the disabled list for the third time this season -- this time with pneumonia -- but he had trouble working back-to-back days even before being sidelined. Meanwhile, Wilson has been brilliant in the role (11-for-13 in save opportunities), holding the opposition to a .152 batting average through 11 appearances in July. I think CJ has earned the right to if not be the outright closer at least be a co-closer for the Rangers with the way he has thrown the ball after a slow start to the year. He has been near perfect in July and continues to pitch well in big spots in the middle of a pennant race for the Rangers.

Yeah, Francisco can't stay healthy, and has never been able to. With the conditioning program Nolan Ryan imposed upon the pitchers, we've seen Wilson really out-perform expectations. While I used to be terrified to see Wilson come into the game, I actually lobby for him now.
