Week 1 Games To See
Starting off the season right, which games for Week 1 will impact post season play the most?
Oregon at Boise State
Nevada at Notre Dame
Georgia at Oklahoma State
BYU at Oklahoma
Alabama at Virginia Tech
If Boise loses, after a weak overall schedule, to play in the BCS (since it's the thing to do), they have to win out and blow out...i mean seriously, 2 MAC teams and UC-Davis won't get you a rematch against Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl....no marriage proposals here
Notre Dame....well, can Jimmy Clausen finally live up to it? Good test as pass happy WAC Nevada will come to South Bend to take on the Irish
Georgia/OK State....Georgia is the stronger team, physically and football sense....but I love OK State, because they and I love a good upset...even if it's in Week 1
BYU/Oklahoma....another pass happy team from the west comes to see Bradford and the kids in Norman...something tells me they won't be able to stop OU in this one. I think an OU loss here would greatly impact post season play for everyone.
'Bama/VT....smash mouth ball....I got Bama in the win because you can't stop Julio....either way, tough battle in primetime.

No way OU loses week one. Georgia and Oklahoma State may go a good ways in helping hash out some of the rankings.

I agree, but I think the OU loss would be the most impact on the postseason....Georgia only has to worry about like 2-3 other teams.....OU has to worry about the whole South...

Very true. The Big 12 South will send either OU or Texas to the national title game I think. Whoever wins that Red River Shootout... a lot riding on one game.

Oregon at Boise State
Nevada at Notre Dame
Georgia at Oklahoma State
BYU at Oklahoma
Alabama at Virginia Tech -- although VTech could pull the upset at home with Bama breaking in a new QB as well as several other new players at key spots.
I would say the Georgia v OK State game and the VT v Bama games will have the most impact on the postseason, because all four of those teams have legitimate shots at BCS games, but a loss in week one will make it extemely difficult the rest of the way, considering the conferences involved. VT seems like the team with the best chance of the 4 to overcome a loss in week 1 and still make the BCS.

hmmm well...
upon further thought VaTech would have to win their conference and if they didn't they would be behind a huge 8 ball. I look at it this way....
Who is in the BCS bowls...
Big 12, SEC, Big 10, ACC, Big East, and Pac 10 winners, duh...
Big 12 at-large and SEC at-large (It would take some unlikely scenarios for this not be true.)
That leaves 2 spots to go, most likely, to a Big 10 or ACC at large or a non-BCS surprise team.
Thus, one conference loss after losing to 'Bama could really hinder VaTech, especially if that's a loss to a division opponent.
On the other hand, Oklahoma State or Alabama could easily rebound from a week 1 loss. Both have tough schedules of mostly winnable games. Both have decent hype and players who merit award attention. Most importantly, both have the opportunity to lose again and still be in a good position to make the BCS.
So with that in mind VaTech is most vulnerable. Oh ya, you gotta watch Nevada play, the QB and running game they have is just nuts.

I see the ACC picking up the extra bid over the Big 10. ACC has better SOS, all Big 10 school suck, are middle of road, or are powerhouses with cupcake schedules out of conference (PENN ST). That's the sad thing about the BCS though, an early loss and your right back in the hunt at the end of the season....If a Pac10 team loses early, then they're ok....lose in the conference to anyone besides Oregon, USC, and Cal, and your done son. Big 12...once you lose in conference....unless it's a crazy year and everyone else loses too...one loss and your tossed....1 loss won't even get you in the conference championship....but if you play in the north....2 or 3 losses gets you the north bid (ridiculous)

I think Georgia vs. OK State will be a great game. Georgia's D up facing Kendall Hunter who in my mind has potential to win the heisman next year. He is a stud on less than 250 carries he rushed for over 1500 and 16 TD's.
